Editor's Notes:

(1) After contributions over the course of two decades to the growth of girls rugby, long-time coach, ref, and league president Dan Chanen presided over his final meeting as an active board member.  Transitioning into the role of fulltime referee, Dan Chanen leaves behind a special place in the development of the girls game.  From getting the first girls team off the ground in 1996 at DSHA, to mentoring a half dozen young coaches, to developing the league news source that garners 1000 reads a month, to helping other new programs like Kettle Moraine and Catholic Memorial get off the ground: his contributions to the game reach to every corner and level of the state. He coached a lot of the coaches who have come through our league.   A longtime supporter of the Waukesha youth tag program, as well as leading Brookfield to it's best-ever season and a run at the National Championship tournament in 2010, Coach Chanen contributed to the game in every possible way:  with introductory little kids rugby, administrating a league, growing a media presence, coaching at an elite level,  and refereeing at the high school to the collegiate and adult club level competitions.  Best of luck and our many, sincerest thanks.

(2) It cannot escape notice that three former WGR high school ruggers have now returned to the league in significant leadership positions.  It is well-deserved and WGR is excited to see where the four young women on the board can help lead the next generation of coaches, players, and supporters.

(3)  A different and equally excited development is the growing leadership and coaching of the youth game coming from "veterans" returning to the game.  Chris Kurth, a former player himself, and Rick Bellis, a long-time Milwaukee Rugby Club stalwart,, have been drawn back into the game either through the students they teach or the daughter they've raised.  Great to have you both back in the game!
