Midwest Championships Historical Archive updated 2022

This year was DSHA HS' 21st Midwest Championship.

This was Sparta Rock's second runner-up finish, having lost in consecutive year's in the final.

This was Catholic Memorial's third 3-place finish and the 7th consecutive year they've finished in the top 3.

This was the 19th year the MW Championship was held at a central location in Indiana.  This seems to work well and helps to draw a mix of midwest teams.  Participation was improved over the year before as the rebound from Covid continues to improve in several states.

Team Wisconsin Tryout May 7th, 2023 12pm-2pm

The first tryout for the WI HS All Star team is May 7th from Noon-2pm at CMH High School in Waukesha. We are looking to take 2 teams to Ohio on June 16-18th. We may also schedule a scrimmage on June 10th in WI. Please pass this along to your teammates and fill out the form if interested.

From Coach Noe:
"We usually have a JV and Varsity side, so it is not just for the upper grades, it is a good way for younger athletes to get out and be leaders among their peers. Last year, we beat MN in our lone match and hope to schedule another match with them in June. However the priority is getting to the Ohio tournament on June 16-18. It is the only All Star event for 15s that I know of this summer."

Coach Noe has been coaching the Wisconsin Selectside Team for a decade now.  He also has coached and worked with the USA underage programs, Collegiate All-Stars programs, and various Men's Collegiate & Clubs.  He's a certified ref and led the Kettle Moraine Girls HS team for a decade.

Fill out the link below if interested.

WGR College Signings 2023

WGR's collegiate student-athlete landscape continues to expand out to new collegiate frontiers.  With the last official high school letter of intent signing day recently, these are the NCAA varsity college-commitments the L-L-R staff are aware of.   There may be a few additions.  Also, this list does not include the WGR graduates who play for club teams.  There tend to be many and that's often a choice those student-athletes don't make until the fall.

NCAA Division I:

Yesenia Morales         Army West Point                        Divine Savior Holy Angels HS

NCAA Division II:

LaJess Jordan            Frostburg St University               Bruisers (Spring '22 through Spring '23)
DSHA    (9th through Fall 11th Grade)

Mya Alexander          Lander University                       Bruisers

NCAA Division III

Maddy Kosmoski     Bowdoin College                         Catholic Memorial HS

Additional Note:
CRAA Division 1 (Not NCAA)

Katrina Clark             Grand Canyon University           Madison Furies

Summer Co-Ed Flag Rugby

There are several flag programs across Wisconsin.
Here's some general info:

Waukesha's Program is one of the largest with over 100 young athletes involved.  Note below from organizers:

 Hi Everyone,

My name is Aly Cunningham, and I will be running the Waukesha Tag Rugby program this summer with my father. I've been playing rugby since he started the program about 17 years ago including tag rugby, high school tackle rugby, and now varsity college rugby.

Registration for rugby is now open with Waukesha Parks, Recreation, and Forestry (WPRF), and you will have to create an account if you do not already have one. Please use this link or copy or paste this into your browser: https://anc.apm.activecommunities.com/waukeshaprf/activity/search?onlineSiteId=0&activity_select_param=2&activity_keyword=rugby&viewMode=list

Our summer practice and tournament schedule is attached. We know that summers are very busy, and your kids are not required to attend every practice and tourney. However, we strongly encourage them to attend as many of the early practices as possible to learn or refresh the rules before going to their first tourney.

You'll see on the schedule that we have our first practice on Friday 6/9 and referee training on Saturday 6/10. We may be hosting training that Saturday, and we will need lots of kids to scrimmage Saturday to help train the referees, so please include that date on your personal rugby calendars.

For those kids who have aged out of tag rugby (e.g., completed 9th grade or higher), we would love for them to consider coaching or refereeing. Please contact me directly. Most of our younger coaches and referees are former players, and this is a great way to stay involved and give back to the game.

Thanks for taking the time to read this long email and let me know if you have any questions.
