Last week saw a slew of pre-season girls rugby scrimmages cancelled due to snow and ice covered fields. As temps finally hit close to 50 for the first time this year, league organizers are beginning to feel a little more optimistic about the opening round of matches next weekend.
WGR Sunday April 7th:
Muskego v Fond Du Lac 1pm
Oak Creek v Vernon 12pm
Kettle Moraine v Menomonee Falls 12pm
Brookfield and CMHS @St Louis Ruggerfest
Other parts of the country have been more lucky. Some noteable girls scores from around the country show that things are in full swing in the warmer parts of the country:
3/23 And Earlier NorCal
3/23 Danville 19 Amazons 7 (NorCal)
A huge victory for the newer Danville girls team played on the stadium turf field in front of 300 fans. Bishop O'Dowd 53 Mother Lode 10
Amazons 34 Dixon 12
Fallbrook 63 Dixon 12
Fullerton v Dixon: no score reported yet ...
2/2 B.O.D. 20 Dixon 17
3/3 Budd Bay 14 Kent 22: Kent maintains their grip on Washington's division and state title, but Budd Bay gave them a closer match than they have in many years.
3/23 Fullerton Invitational Youth Tournament:
Fallbrook 34 Kent 0: (unconfirmed, but if this was indeed a shortened match of one 25 minute period, one has to wonder if this was a developmental side from Kent or a statement from the pre-season #1 team)
Fullerton 17 Kent 0: Another California team notching a big win. Reports continue to cloud where Fullerton should fit in. Reports claim they used players out of high school in their u19 program last season.
Fullerton 0 Fallbrook 15: Fallbrook won the championship of the Fullerton Invite on Fullerton's home turf.
Kent 17 Carson Graham 3: Kent wins the 3rd Place match.
Las Vegas Invite (back in February)
Minn Tundra 22 Snow Canyon 17:
Some reports decribed MT as a lot of Armstrong girls and some other MN players added in to the mix.
Fallbrook 41 Wild Rose (Canada) 14
Minn Tundra 17 Wild Rose 15
