Girls HS Rugby National Tournament 2022 (Full Press Release) & Historical Records

The 22nd Annual Girls High School Rugby National Tournament for single school programs will take place the weekend of May 21st-22nd, 2022 at Notre Dame College in Ohio.

"Notre Dame College, who's women's rugby team finished 3rd in the NCR Women's National Collegiate championships this past fall, is excited to host the GHSNC here close to Cleveland, Ohio on our beautiful campus. We have hosted many events in the past such as the Rugby Ohio State championships along with many youth, high school, and college tournaments,” said Jason Fox, NDC Director of Rugby.

Fox added, “The NDC administration has been extremely supportive of all levels of rugby in the area.  Along with Jack Nece, women's head coach , our teams are looking forward to working with all the athletes and coaches that attend."

The women’s collegiate program will host matches on Mueller Field and Normandy Field.

NGCC schools chair John Klein noted, “Bringing the national tournament to another new location is important to the girls rugby community, especially when it helps bring in new competitors.  We are encouraged whenever rugby can help rugby at different levels and are thankful for the program at NDC for hosting all these girls teams. They’ve planned this for going on three years and are ready to put on an excellent event.”

Single School teams will compete in a quarterfinal and semifinal Saturday May 21st with final matches Sunday May 22nd.  Developing programs are encouraged to compete against teams they might not normally ever compete against.  Organizers are once again planning multiple brackets of competition; an eight-team division one competition, along with an eight-team second division.  Planners are considering a JV Bracket pending interest.

Organizers are encouraged by the expectation of renewed participation from Colorado in addition to single school hotbeds throughout the Midwest and South.  Organizers have already been working with new programs from the East and West coast.   “Having teams represent different territories makes this tournament a National event,” noted Klein.

Questions regarding registration and policies should be directed to National Coaches Committee member John Waliszewski.  Venue and city information should be directed to Jason Fox at NDC.

Marquette Women Finish 4th in NRC finals

In the NCR women's finals over the weekend, the Marquette University women's rugby team lost both their matches.  After a heavy defeat to Life University on Saturday, the Golden Eagles faced another varsity program in Notre Dame College, losing 42-12.

Congrats to all the ladies and Coach Hanley on their fall season.  They got to play a good number of 15's matches against all sorts of different competition levels.

Four Marquette players were recognized by National Collegiate Rugby for their play over the weekend, and it's no surprise that 3 of the 4 played high school rugby.

Marquette University Women's Rugby to NCR Finals 2021

The Marquette Women's Rugby team competes in the NCR D1 playoffs Dec 4th in Knoxville, TN at 3pm EST.

The collegiate club team takes on the JV side of Atlanta's varsity side at Life University. MU defeated Iowa St and Grand Valley St to advance.

The winner advances to play the winner of the Univ. of Northern Iowa vs Notre Dame College, another varsity women's team from the Cleveland area. The finals are on Dec 5th.

Marquette women have former DSHA and MU rugger Aoife Hanley as head coach.  Hanley is also a RaMP ref member, who progressed to reffing WGR league matches this past fall.

A few other WGR alumni also play for MU women, notably forward captain Kayla McQuestion, CMH '18 and dynamic fullback Bella Ingrilli, CMH '21.  There may of course be others as well!

The Golden Eagle's scrumhalf, Evelyn Mitchell, played high school rugby in Canada and their flyhalf is a St Joseph's high school alumn.  Wing Frankie Ingram is another rugger with high school experience.

Safe travels to everyone.
