The WGR fall season kicks off Saturday with a round of nonconference warm up matches. A few changes have occurred over the last few weeks, with Fond Du Lac and Appleton merging in D2, due to a lack of coaches. Menomonee Falls folded a few weeks ago, so it appears the D2 teams will look to play each other home and away, to cope with the changes.
In the good news category, Kettle Moraine has a new coaching staff on board, led by head coach and KM alumn, Liz Millman. Millman played on some of the great KM teams in the mid 2000's and went on to play collegiately. Newly certified as well, she brings a lot of enthusiasm and is well-respected in the rugby community.
As school starts up, all teams are still accepting registrations and everyone's numbers are expected to continue to grow.
Brookfield continues to grow and bring new kids into the sport. Word is they have registered 40-some student athletes from both Tosa high schools, Greenfield, both Brookfield High Schools and perhaps Iceland too.
Lastly, Catholic Memorial kicks off the WGR fall season with a 7's exhibition at halftime of the varsity football game between CMH (defending State Champs) and Waukesha North. The game kicks off at 7pm at Waukesha South High School. There should be about 3000 people there to see the action, many who will be seeing rugby for the first time!
