The inaugural Wisconsin Girls Rugby (WGR) Skills Development Program kicked off August 26th in Menomonee Falls.
This fall's installments focusing on kicking and handling continue with a follow up session Sept 9th in Oshkosh, both run by former Irish and Munster fullback Dominic Crotty.
The sessions are fully funded by WGR and offered at no cost to WGR players, in an effort to allow all league players an opportunity to be exposed to layers of coaching without having to attend an expensive camp. Multiple sessions are a fundamental part of the program in order to develop not just expose players to skills. Players, who register beforehand, are encouraged to attend all sessions.
Players of all experience levels attended the camp. Future sessions will focus on other specific aspects of play bringing players from all teams across the state together.
WGR encourages coaches, players, and parents to contribute to the growth of the girls rugby. Please contact board members if interested in helping grow the WGR league and playing opportunities across the state. Funds generated from the State Tournament go towards running programs such as this.
The WGR State Tournament will be held on Otober 28th, 2018 at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex in Franklin. Many volunteers are needed to run the event and any profits go towards supporting league coaches as well as providing programs such as this. Those interested in sponsoring ads in the State Tournament Program should contact the WGR Treasurer.
